How to Uninstall Tape Backup Software

This includes the following Jumbo software versions:
1. Colorado Backup for DOS version 2.54
2. Colorado Backup for DOS versions 3.x and 4.x
3. Colorado Backup for Windows versions 1.x

In order to uninstall your tape backup software, there are a couple of items you will need to have:

  1. Colorado Software version: Determine the version of software
    you are using by starting up the software. The version is
    displayed on the first screen. (Be sure to follow any special
    instructions pertaining to the version you have.)
  2. Editor (i.e. DOS EDIT or a word processor). In the uninstall
    process you will need to edit your WIN.lNl and SYSTEM.INI
    ASCII text files. Instructions below assume you are using DOS
    EDIT.

*NOTE: All examples assume that the tape software was installed in C:TAPE subdirectory.
*NOTE: Before you start, it is a good idea to make a backup copy of the files we are editing. To do this type COPY (original file
name) (backup file name); i.e. COPY WIN.INI WIN.SAV

 1.   Exit Windows.
 2. At DOS prompt C:; type CDWINDOWS
 3. Type EDIT WIN.INI -- reminder ... it is a good idea to
      backup this file first.
 4. Look for the line (it should be about 3 lines down)
      and delete the following but none of the other items that
      might be loading here.
      C:TAPESCHED.EXE or tab over to locate, if needed
      C:CBWSCHED.EXE (Colorado Backup for Windows)
 5. Down towards the bottom of the file there should be
      another section that needs to be deleted:
      [TAPEBACKUP]
      CMSPATH=C:TAPE
 6. Select FILE from pull down menu and EXIT the software.
      It should ask for confirmation of whether it should save
      the file, answer yes.

 7. EDITSYSTEM.[NL -reminder ... it is a good idea to backup
      this file first!
 8. Look for the [386Enh] section (the text to delete will be
      in there). It should be about half way down the file.
      Delete the following text depending on your version of
      the Colorado software.
      DEVICE=C:TAPEVFINTD.386 (version 2.54)
      DEVICE=C:TAPECMSDTAPE.386 (version 3.0x)
      DEVICE=C:CBWCMSWTAPE.386 (Colorado Backup for Windows)
 9. Select FILE from pull down menu and EXIT the software.
      It should again ask for confirmation of whether to save
      the file.  Answer yes.
 10. Delete the TAPE (or CBW) directory and all the files that
      are in it by doing the following:
      CDTAPE (or CDCBW for Colorado Backup for Windows)
      DEL
      CD
      RD TAPE (or RD CBW for Colorado Backup for Windows)

NOTE: If your software was installed through Windows, you will need to delete the program group by going into Windows. Click on the Tape Software icon, select File, then click on delete (do this for each backup icon - then, also delete the program group in the same manner if tape software icons are in their own program group). You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete the group ... answer appropriately. Upon entering Windows you may receive an error about not being able to load the driver that we just deleted (*.386) this is normal
